Weekly roundup: Some go-to story resources
This week on the blog — a spotlight on a few of our favorite sources of news and views on social-change storytelling.
Andy Goodman’s Twitter feed. Andy Goodman is a nonprofit storytelling guru and communications trainer, and the author of “Storytelling as Best Practice.” He’s consistently insightful, funny and user-friendly. Check out his website or Twitter feed (linked to above), which always have great resources.
The Future of Storytelling blog. FoST, as it’s called for short, has fingers in the pies of technology, entertainment, media and social good — they’re interested in leading-edge forms of storytelling, from immersive theater to video games and more. Their blog has excellent videos from all sorts of storytellers, as well as a weekly storytelling round-up of their own.
“frank” community on public interest communications. frank (lower case) makes communications fun. They have a funky gathering every year, with talks that manage to be both informative and inspiring; and even if you can’t attend, most of the talks are archived online. Their “frankology” page of original insights and their “finds” page on other wisdom from around the web are consistently unusual — stuff you won’t find elsewhere.
“Hatch,” the Rockefeller Foundation’s resource on social-change storytelling. Hatch offers blog posts on social-change storytelling and a terrific online tool that walks organizations through the process of developing a story strategy and telling better stories. It’s an open resource, you don’t have to be a Rockefeller grantee to use it.
There are lots more organizations and resources we turn to, but those are a few that are regularly updated. Check ’em out!
